Traditional Muay Thai shorts are built specifically for Thai boxing.
Unlike standard gym shorts, they typically feature shorter, wider legs to give you plenty of freedom through the hips when throwing kicks, knees and teeps.
At Nak Muay Training, we stock authentic Thai boxing shorts from established Muay Thai brands including Twins Special, Fairtex and Top King, with designs ranging from traditional Thai styles to more modern and understated options.
Which Muay Thai Shorts Should You Choose?
Fit comes first.
Your shorts should stay securely around your waist without restricting your hips or legs when you're training.
After that, it's mostly personal preference.
Different Thai brands have their own cuts, sizing and designs, so we'd recommend checking the individual product size guide rather than assuming your normal UK clothing size will be the same.

How Should Muay Thai Shorts Fit?
Muay Thai shorts generally sit higher around the waist than normal gym shorts and have wider openings around the legs.
That's intentional.
The cut gives your hips enough room to rotate properly when kicking without the material pulling against your legs.
They should feel secure around your waist but shouldn't restrict your movement.
If you can't comfortably throw a head kick in them, something's gone wrong.
What Size Muay Thai Shorts Should I Buy?
Thai sizing can differ from standard UK clothing sizes, and sizing can also vary between brands.
Always check the measurements provided on the individual product page before ordering.
Pay particular attention to the waistband and how you prefer your shorts to fit.
If you're between sizes, sizing up can sometimes provide a more comfortable fit, but use the specific brand's measurements rather than relying on a general rule.
Muay Thai Shorts for Training & Fighting
The same pair of shorts can generally be used for pad work, bag training, sparring and fighting.
You don't need separate shorts for each type of training.
For competition, however, check whether your event or promotion has any requirements around colours, logos or other equipment.
For everyday gym training, choose something that fits properly, gives you unrestricted movement and that you actually like wearing.
There's not much more to overthink.
