Are Twins Special Boxing Gloves Good?
Yes.
Twins Special gloves are particularly good for Muay Thai because they're designed around the demands of Thai boxing rather than being purely boxing-focused.
Expect plenty of padding across the knuckles, good wrist support and a traditional Thai-style fit that works well across pads, bag work, drills and sparring.
They're not particularly complicated gloves. That's part of the appeal.

Twins Special BGVL3 Review
The BGVL3 is the classic Twins Special glove and the model we'd recommend to most people looking for their first pair.
It's a velcro glove with a secure wrist closure and plenty of padding around the hand and knuckles.
The biggest strength of the BGVL3 is versatility.
You can use it for:
- Pad work
- Bag work
- General Muay Thai training
- Partner drills
- Sparring in an appropriate weight
There are more specialised gloves available, but if you want one dependable pair for regular training, the BGVL3 makes a lot of sense.

How Do Twins Special Gloves Fit?
Twins gloves generally have a compact Thai-style fit with substantial padding.
Don't confuse the ounce weight with hand size, though.
A 16oz glove isn't simply a bigger version for somebody with larger hands. The weight primarily affects the amount and distribution of padding.
Your hand wraps will also affect how the glove feels, so always take that into account.
Like most leather gloves, they'll usually feel more natural once they've had some training time and started to break in.
What Weight Should You Choose?
For most people, it comes down to what you're using them for.
10oz: Pads, bag work and faster technical work.
12oz: General training, particularly for lighter fighters.
14oz: A good all-round training weight with additional protection.
16oz: Commonly used for sparring.
Your gym may have its own rules regarding sparring glove weight, so ask your coach before buying specifically for sparring.
They know your size and how their gym operates better than an online size chart does.
Are Twins Special Gloves Good for Sparring?
Yes. This is actually one of the areas where Twins make a lot of sense.
Their generous padding makes them a popular choice for sparring, particularly in 14oz and 16oz.
Just don't spend months smashing the same pair into a heavy bag and then expect your training partners to enjoy being hit with them.

Twins Velcro vs Lace-Up Gloves
For normal day-to-day Muay Thai training, we'd recommend velcro to most people.
They're easy to put on yourself and easy to remove between rounds.
Lace-ups provide a different level of wrist fit and adjustment. They're a great option for sparring, boxing work or fighters who simply prefer the traditional feel of a properly laced glove.
The obvious downside is that you'll usually need somebody to help you put them on properly.

Are Twins Special Gloves Good for Beginners?
Definitely.
We'd rather see a beginner buy one good pair of gloves and use them for years than buy the cheapest pair available and replace them six months later.
You don't need expensive equipment to become good at Muay Thai.
But if you know you're going to stick with your training, buying decent gloves from the beginning makes sense.
The BGVL3 is particularly easy to recommend because you don't need to know exactly what kind of fighter you're going to become. It's versatile enough to cover most of your training.
How Long Do Twins Special Boxing Gloves Last?
There's no honest answer in months or years because it depends entirely on how often you train and how you treat them.
Someone training twice a week isn't putting their gloves through the same abuse as a fighter doing ten sessions.
The basics matter:
Take them out of your gym bag after training. Let them air properly. Wipe them down when needed. Don't leave them wet. Don't dry leather gloves directly against strong heat.
Look after good equipment and it generally looks after you.
