FAQ

Lace-Up Muay Thai Gloves

We offer Lace-Up Boxing Gloves designed for Muay Thai or Boxing training and competition. These gloves are typically made of genuine leather or synthetic leather with durable stitching and lace-up closure to ensure a secure fit around the wrist and hand.

The lace-up closure on the gloves allows for a more customized fit compared to Velcro-closure gloves, which can come loose during intense training sessions.

Benefits of Boxing Gloves With Laces

Lace-up Boxing Gloves offer many benefits for Muay Thai practitioners:

Secure Fit: Lace-up gloves provide a more customized fit than gloves with Velcro closures. The laces can be tightened to ensure a secure fit around the wrist and hand.

More Wrist Support: Intense pad sessions can put a lot of strain on the wrists. Lace-up gloves offer more wrist support which can reduce the risk of injury and allows you to train more effectively.

Improved Performance: The secure fit and increased wrist support provided by lace-up gloves allow for better hand and wrist alignment, which can lead to more powerful and precise strikes.

Safer Clinch Sessions: Lace-Up Gloves are very important for when you are clinching at training and want to practise techniques with gloves on. This is because lace-ups offers more wrist flexibility and makes it safer compared to velcro gloves as you won't be able to scratch your team mates with the velcro straps.

Muay Thai Gloves Sizing

We have a lot of glove sizes available, starting at 4oz then going all the way up to 20oz.

  • 4oz - 6oz: Junior sizes
  • 8oz - 12oz: Both juniors and adult sizes
  • 12oz - 20oz: Usually reserved just for adults

Which size do you need?

Gyms typically have their own policy on what size gloves they want you to wear for drills and sparring, a safe bet is to ask your coach first before purchasing.

A simple guideline for you to follow:

  • 8oz/10oz: Glove sizes for amateur & professional competitions
  • 8oz, 10oz & 12oz: Bag/pad work
  • 14oz: Light sparring
  • 16oz and above: Light and heavy sparring

For a lot of gyms, 16oz for sparring is a must but confirm with your coach if 14oz is permitted for light sparring.

There is also nothing wrong with getting one pair of 14oz (check with your trainer) or 16oz gloves that you can use for everything. We actually advise this if you are a beginner and don't want to spend too much money on your first purchase of equipment.

If you then feel like you'd prefer a lighter pair of gloves or you see another design that you like, you can then get a second pair that is 10oz/12oz just for pad/bagwork.

Maintaining Your Lace-Up Gloves

Caring for and maintaining your Lace-Up Boxing Gloves is essential to ensure their longevity and hygiene. Here are some tips on how to care for them:

  1. Keep them dry: After each training session, wipe the sweat and moisture off the gloves using a clean cloth or towel. Avoid leaving them in damp or humid environments, as this can lead to the growth of bacteria and unpleasant odors.
  2. Air them out: Allow your gloves to air out in a well-ventilated area after use. This helps to reduce moisture buildup and prevent the development of unpleasant smells.
  3. Use hand wraps: Wearing hand wraps can help absorb sweat and prevent it from directly seeping into the gloves, thus extending their lifespan and maintaining their freshness.
  4. Avoid direct sunlight and extreme heat: Exposing your gloves to direct sunlight or extreme heat can cause the materials to deteriorate, fade, or warp. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  5. Clean the interior: Over time, the interior of the gloves may accumulate sweat and odor-causing bacteria. You can use an antibacterial spray or wipe to clean the inside of the gloves. Be sure to follow the instructions on the cleaning product.
  6. Clean the exterior: Regularly wipe the exterior of the gloves with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that can damage the materials.
  7. Use deodorizers: To combat persistent odors, you can use deodorizing products specifically designed for sports equipment. These can help keep your gloves smelling fresh between uses.
  8. Rotate gloves: If you frequently train or compete, consider having multiple pairs of gloves and rotating them. This allows each pair to properly dry out and prevents excessive wear and tear.
  9. Store them properly: When not in use, store your Muay Thai boxing gloves in a well-ventilated area. Avoid folding or compressing them, as this can deform the padding and affect their performance.

By following these care and maintenance practices, you can extend the lifespan of your Lace-Up Gloves, keep them clean, and ensure optimal performance during training and competition.
